How to Maintain a Flat Tummy this Summer

If you have recently undergone a tummy tuck, (or more commonly for those of us who haven’t!) maintaining a flat belly through the lazy summer months requires us to keep a couple of important things in mind. As much as we would like to think that summer is full of action-packed vacations and high amounts of calorie-blasting activity, a lot of times the majority of the summer is spent eating rich foods high in fat and sugar and low on nutritional value. Follow these tips and you will feel comfortable showing off your belly in a nice bathing suit all summer long.

Stay away from these foods & drinks!

I always say, “Food is medicine,” because what we feed our bodies directly impacts how we look and feel. Unfortunately, there are just some things that shouldn’t be a part of your summer diet, no matter how delicious or refreshing they seem. In order to keep the bulge away, you’re going to want to avoid foods high in saturated fats such as potato and macaroni salads, as well as anything that is deep fried. As good as they may taste, they are just torture to your belly. Avoiding a high sodium intake and carbonated beverages will also help to keep your belly from puffing up like a balloon. Instead, take advantage of ripe summer fruits and vegetables, like watermelon, berries, tomatoes and leafy greens. These will increase your anti-oxidant consumption, and minimize your abdomen.

Cardio & Crunches

You can do hundreds upon hundreds of crunches a day, but if you’re not pairing the ab exercises with cardio, there will be a layer of fat sitting on top of the muscle and hiding the definition! It is important to consistently burn the fat away with cardio while building muscle with crunches or sit-ups if you want to maintain a toned belly or even develop a six-pack!
