MonaLisa Touch® Vaginal Rejuvenation

Did you know as many as 50% of postmenopausal women suffer from changes in their gynecologic health? Whether menopause as a result of natural hormone decline caused by aging, or early onset menopause due to chemotherapy or hormone therapy as part of a cancer diagnosis, the lingering symptoms can be quite similar—from night sweats, hot flashes, problems sleeping, decreased libido…to vaginal dryness, vaginal itching, urinary incontinence, and painful intercourse.

Based on Dr. Hunsicker’s work with breast reconstruction patients, she understands how the side effects of breast cancer treatment can linger for years after the cancer is gone. And as a woman, she understands the unpleasant surprises that come along with the natural aging process, and how difficult it can be to discuss and admit vulnerabilities when it comes to intimate issues. Dr. Hunsicker is grateful to be able to offer the MonaLisa Touch procedure that is changing her patients’ lives. Finally, it’s OK to talk about the unpleasantness of vaginal atrophy and the gynecological changes you might be experiencing after menopause, because now you can do something to treat the problem, not just the symptoms.

How the MonaLisa Touch procedure works

The MonaLisa Touch is one of the most innovative treatments for regenerating vaginal tissue—it restores pliability, moisture, and function to patients who previously thought their only option was hormone-based lubricants or “putting up” with their circumstances. By using fractional CO2 laser energy, this unique treatment restores vitality to the vaginal walls and labial skin. Laser energy has been used for years by plastic surgeons to revitalize the face and neck by stimulating a healing response and promoting new cell growth. It’s the first treatment of its kind to apply this same technology to the tissue of the vaginal mucosa: increasing lubrication, improving pliability and elasticity, decreasing pain, and thickening the skin’s surface.

How the MonaLisa Touch procedure is performed

MonaLisa Touch is quick and painless. As a non-surgical treatment, it requires no anesthesia because there is very minimal to no discomfort—patients usually describe it as a gentle vibration. During the procedure, a probe is inserted which allows fractional CO2 laser energy to be delivered in a 360° treatment field. As the energy enters the tissue, it stimulates your body’s natural healing response, generating new collagen, elastin, and vascularization. Each treatment takes less than 5 minutes to complete, and patients can resume most of their daily activities immediately after the procedure.

A typical course of treatment includes three in-office procedures over 18 weeks, although some patients notice results within weeks after the first treatment. Lasting results are best achieved through a single “maintenance” treatment about once a year.

MonaLisa Touch FAQ

With no residual pain or side effects, patients are free to resume their day as soon as they leave the office. It is recommended that patients abstain from sexual activities for two to seven days after treatment.

MonaLisa Touch is initially performed in a series of three treatments, spaced six weeks apart—with some women feeling results in as little as a few weeks after their first treatment. Full benefit will usually be experienced six weeks after the third treatment, although in some cases additional treatments are needed. Annual treatments are typically recommended to maintain full results of the initial series.

Thousands of women have been treated safely worldwide since 2012. The MonaLisa Touch treatment uses fractional CO2 technology that has been used effectively for decades, and this procedure offers women an option to treat vaginal dryness without the potential side-effects of synthetic topical hormones and lubricants.

The MonaLisa Touch is currently not covered by managed care as no processing code has been established.

HydraFacial MD®

Revalla Plastic Surgery in Denver offers the renowned HydraFacial®, a resurfacing procedure that provides cleansing, exfoliation, extractions, and hydration all in one rejuvenating treatment. As part of the hydrating treatment, the skin can also be infused with antioxidants, peptides, and hyaluronic acid—further plumping the skin, combating fine lines and protecting the skin against free radical damage. The HydraFacial is a soothing procedure that is moisturizing, non-irritating, and immediately effective. This painless procedure can have instant benefits for the skin on your face, neck and chest.

With a HydraFacial treatment, you will notice your skin looks refreshed, more luminous and younger-looking right away. This one-of-a-kind, the award-winning technology works like a wet microdermabrasion—a hydradermabrasion—to address fine-lines and wrinkles, dehydrated skin, as well as oily/congested skin. It also is a painless treatment to address the pigmentation and brown spots associated with sun damage. To treat a wide range of skin issues, the HydraFacial can even include a gentle chemical peel to help loosen dirt and debris from pores without irritation.

The HydraFacial procedure addresses:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Dull or pigmented complexions
  • Inflammation and redness
  • Rosacea
  • Acne–whiteheads, blackheads, and congested areas
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Some visible scars.

The 4-in-1 HydraFacial treatments are beneficial for patients from a wide-range of age groups and skin types. Younger patients may wish to reduce the appearance of breakouts, while mature patients will enjoy the treatment results on dehydrated skin that can contribute to fine lines and wrinkles.

Techniques Used in the HydraFacial MD®

The four-step process in the HydraFacial contributes to the total skin rejuvenation that it offers.

  • Cleansing and Exfoliation—Dead skin cells are removed to reveal healthy new skin.
  • Acid Peel—This gentle peel helps loosen dirt and debris from pores without irritation.
  • Extractions—Painless, automated extractions use vortex suction to clean out pores.
  • Hydration—Antioxidants and Hylauronic Acid are Vortex-Fused™ to nourish and protect.

The procedure features clinically formulated solutions as part of the hydradermabrasion to target some of the most common skin conditions. Whether you are hoping to diminish wrinkles and fine lines, uneven skin tone and texture, rosacea, dryness, clogged or enlarged pores, sun damage or hyperpigmentation, our medical aesthetician can customize your HydraFacial treatment to meet your needs. The procedure requires no down-time and no discomfort, and you can resume normal activities with younger-looking, rejuvenated skin immediately after the 30-minute treatment. For some patients, treatment may also be done on the neck, chest and hands. Some patients may require more than one treatment to achieve the results they are looking for, and because the treatment is so gentle, it can be completed as often as once a week.

FAQ

“Amazing.” “Refreshed.” “Glowing.” “Luminous.” This is how patients describe their rejuvenated skin for days after the treatment. There’s no downtime, just the glowing refreshed appearance of richly-hydrated skin that’s been infused with powerful antioxidants and peptides.

Although extremely effective for addressing redness, thinning skin, rosacea, and acne-prone skin, the HydraFacial treats all these conditions with a gentle hydradermabrasion. The 4-in-1 treatment process gently preps the skin, clinically treats it with a light acid peel, painlessly extracts blackheads and whiteheads, and hydrates with antioxidants which decrease inflammation in the skin. The treatment initiates the skin’s natural healing process, so skin becomes thicker, smoother, and more resilient. Skin becomes healthier.

Some patients choose to have the HydraFacial as often as once a week when they first begin their facial rejuvenation treatments. Although individual results and expectations vary, most patients choose to have the procedure 1-2 times per month for the best results.

Latisse®

Long eyelashes are an important hallmark of feminine beauty throughout the world. Unfortunately, eyelash hypotrichosis, or inadequate eyelashes, is a common problem afflicting many Americans.

The lack of sufficient eyelashes can cause serious eye problems, as eyelashes work to protect the eye from dirt and debris. Women and men suffering from inadequate eyelashes can now receive prescriptions for Latisse, the only FDA-approved drug that’s been proven to make eyelashes longer, thicker, and darker.

How Latisse Works

Latisse is a prescription medication that may be obtained after speaking with a qualified doctor. The drug is sold in various sizes, which can last 2-4 months, and offers best results when applied correctly:

  • Cleanse your face, remove contact lenses and makeup, and apply any skincare products that you may be using
  • Place a drop of Latisse on the special sterile applicator
  • Apply the formula to the skin of the upper eyelid at the base of the eyelashes, moving from the inner area of the eyelid outward
  • Blot any excess product and dispose of the applicator

Latisse

FAQ

Latisse is a bimatoprost ophthalmic solution similar to the glaucoma drug Lumigan. Physicians noticed that Lumigan tended to enhance patients’ eyelashes and began to investigate its active ingredients. The result of this research was Latisse, which was approved in 2008 by the FDA for cosmetic treatments.

Hair normally goes through active and dormant growth phases, and during the dormant phase no growth occurs. Latisse is a special product that keeps eyelashes in a perpetual growth phase. This enhanced growth produces amazing results within a few months.

The most common side effects after using Latisse are itchiness and redness, which occur in roughly 4 percent of patients. In rare cases, patients experience a darkening of their irises, the colored part of the eye. As a powerful growth formula, Latisse may cause hair growth to occur on other parts of the body, so patients should be careful when applying it. In order to minimize these risks, be sure to follow your doctor’s instructions.

Within 8–12 weeks, your eyelashes will appear longer, fuller, and darker than before. The full results appear after roughly 16 weeks.

Ongoing applications are necessary to maintain the new appearance of your eyelashes. Otherwise they will gradually return to their previous appearance.

Dermaplaning Non-Surgical Skin Rejuvenation

Dermaplaning, also known as epidermal leveling or blading, provides a manual exfoliation by removing the outermost layers of dead skin cells. If you are looking for a non-invasive method of skin rejuvenation that leaves your skin smooth, supple, and vibrant, then dermaplaning may be right for you.

If the Denver sun has left your skin sun-damaged, dull, or dehydrated, we perform dermaplaning treatment at our Revalla office in South Denver, CO to help patients achieve a more youthful appearance, brightened through advanced exfoliation.

Dermaplaning skin rejuvenation treatment can help with the following:

  • Diminishing light surface wrinkling
  • Smoothing acne scarring
  • Helping to unblock blackheads
  • Reducing pore size
  • Removing facial hair
  • Improving skin texture
  • Evening out skin tone
  • Generating new, healthy cells
  • Enhancing the penetration of skincare products

Techniques Used in Dermaplaning

During your facial rejuvenation treatment, we use a sterile, surgical blade to stroke the skin at a 45-degree angle. It’s similar to shaving, except your skin will be held taut during the stroking technique.

FAQ

The treatment usually takes no longer than 30 minutes to complete in our Denver office.

Regular treatments are scheduled 3-4 weeks apart. The dermaplaning blading technique will remove 2-3 weeks of dead skin cells.

Dermaplanning is a quick, non-surgical procedure that is pain-free. There is no swelling or pain associated with the dermaplaning procedure and patients can usually return to normal activities immediately.

Dermaplaning is a safe and effective treatment. Once your skin is dermaplaned, dead skin is removed, making it easier for helpful skin treatments to penetrate your skin.

Dermaplaning can reduce the appearance of acne scars by leveling the skin’s surface. If you suffer from severe acne, however, dermaplaning is not recommended because it can aggravate or stimulate acne breakouts in hair follicles.

A common myth is that dermaplaning will make your hair grow back thicker. Since the hair on the face consists of vellus hairs, it is physiologically impossible for it to grow back thicker since the structure of the hair does not become damaged.

Customized Medical Facials

Our customized medical facials are designed to get results, treating bothersome conditions like acne, dryness, and unwanted pigmentation.

Medical facials are not designed to be therapeutic. Spending time being pampered in meditative surroundings has its place in the aesthetic world, but relaxation alone is not the goal of this treatment. The goal is to treat your skin so it is healthier and younger looking. Our aesthetician, Ruth Ann Roth, uses an effective combination of customized formulas that target your skin problems during the facial. The following are two of our most popular medical facials

Revalla Signature Medical Facial

The Revalla Signature facial is tailored for your skin type and targeted to address your skin concerns. We use pharmaceutical grade products specifically chosen for your skin type.

The facial can treat:

  • Improving skin texture
  • Evening out skin tone
  • Removing facial hair
  • Generating new, healthy cells
  • Enhancing penetration of skincare products

The facial exfoliates dead skin cells, leaving your skin rejuvenated and fresh. Included is a comprehensive skin analysis, deep cleansing, an exfoliating masque, extractions (if necessary), and a hydration masque.

The treatment can be finished in less than one hour. For best results, we recommend a series of 6 treatments 3-4 weeks apart.

In some cases, we also recommend getting the facial in conjunction with other treatments such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and dermaplaning.

Acne Facial

The Acne Facial focuses on deep skin cleansing for prevention of acne. It is designed to bring acne under control and improve skin clarity.

The facial can treat:

  • Diminishing light surface wrinkling
  • Smoothing acne scarring
  • Helping unblock blackheads
  • Reducing pore size

Included in the acne facial is:

  • Deep skin cleansing
  • Exfoliating masque
  • Extractions
  • Calming gel masque

The Acne Facial can achieve excellent results for teens as well as adults.

The treatment can be finished in about one hour. For best results, we often recommend a series of 6 treatments 3-4 weeks apart. We may advise you to get the Acne Facial in conjunction with other therapies such as chemical peels and laser acne treatment.

Custom At-home Skincare

Revalla Plastic Surgery sells a wide range of pharmaceutical grade skincare products that help you maintain your skin health, look better, and achieve your goals for anti-aging. We offer skincare consultation services to individualize your at-home regimen so it works within your daily routine.

How We Recommend Custom At-home Skincare

At our Littleton office, we will prescribe a simple treatment plan that is customized for your specific skin type and goals. Our skincare systems incorporate more active ingredients, thereby inducing more effective results.

More active ingredients mean: 1) the results are achieved faster than drug or department store brands, 2) the product cleanses to deeper levels 3) the skin absorbs the product more effectively, and 4) the products are more effective and results more targeted, 5) more concentrated formulations mean that less product has to be used to achieve better results than non-pharmaceutical grade products.

Chemical Peel

Revalla Plastic Surgery in Denver offers chemical peels, an excellent way to remove dead, dull surface cells, ridding yourself of damaged and uneven skin. This short procedure can have long-lasting benefits for the skin on your face, neck and chest.

With a chemical peel, you can achieve refreshed, younger-looking facial skin. To treat a wide range of skin issues, chemical peels are available in light or deep variations.

A chemical peel can treat:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Poor complexion
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Some visible scars

Chemical peels are beneficial for patients of many ages. Younger patients may wish to reduce the appearance of acne, while mature patients may deal with fine lines and wrinkles.

Patients with darker skin, however, may not be ideal patients for a chemical peel, given its ability to change some pigmentation. Please consult with us about skincare options for dark skin.

Techniques Used in the Chemical Peel

The process for applying a chemical peel is actually quite simple and can take as little as 15 minutes. First, your skin will be carefully cleansed. Next, the chemical peel solution will be applied to your face. For some patients, treatment may also be done on the neck, chest, back or hands.

The solution will work for a short time on your skin before it is removed. Some patients may require more than one treatment to correct skin issues.

FAQ

Just as the name implies, your skin will begin to flake or peel somewhat following your treatment. Other patients don’t experience any peeling at all, despite the exfoliation process that is occurring after treatment. Either way, the dead, dull skin cells on the surface are removed and fresh, young, beautiful skin is then revealed.

For a light chemical peel, this flaking should be minimal and you will not need to apply an ointment. You should, however, continue to apply a daily SPF to protect your skin.

Much like a light chemical peel, your skin will begin to shed its dull outer layers and reveal cleaner, more clear skin beneath.

With a deep chemical peel, you will experience more intense peeling–sometimes peeling in “sheets” of skin–as well as redness, tightness, and possibly some tingling or itching. In these cases, there may be some social downtime, and activities such as exercise and outdoor exposure may need to be limited. It will also be key that you apply a lotion or ointment, in addition to a physical-block sunscreen, to protect your new skin from getting too much sun and wind exposure.

Certified Oncology Aesthetics

Oncology Aesthetics

Revalla Plastic Surgery in Denver offers the expertise of a Certified Oncology Aesthetician, Ruth Ann Roth, who can provide customized treatments and skincare recommendations for those patients who are in the midst of a cancer diagnosis, or those who have medically-compromised skin due to cancer treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation. Seeing a need for cancer patients to address their physical, emotional, and anti-aging needs in a safe, compassionate setting, Ruth received her specialty training and certification through Oncology Aesthetics International. This specialized certification enables her to provide solutions to the numerous skin-related side effects from cancer treatments, offering benefits such as easing symptoms and skin reactions, improving skin health, as well as restoring a sense of well-being and relaxation in the midst of a stressful time.

If you or someone you love is undergoing cancer treatment, you may find that the skin and nails become reactive or more susceptible to irritation, for instance:

  • Many chemotherapies can cause skin to be severely dry, fragile, acneaic, and/or sun-sensitive.
  • Nails can become brittle, discolored and more prone to infection.
  • Radiation therapy can cause inflammation, burning, thinning or tightening of the treated area, as well as impair circulation of the blood or lymph fluid (lymphedema).

Also, because the skin has a memory and does not forget the damage and inflammation from the past, side-effects and sensitivities can show up weeks or months after treatment has ended.

In order to treat the wide-variety of symptoms that cancer patients present, Ruth starts each visit with a customized consultation to establish the individualized needs of each patient. In her words, “The cancer treatment plan will change over time, and I view the aesthetic plan as changing accordingly based on the desires and symptoms of the patient. The right skincare plan can serve as a great source of comfort—it’s a healing and rejuvenative act that offers the patient an element of control, at a time when so much of their world is out of control. It’s a blessing for me to get to help patients in this way…I’m honored to be part of their care.”

In addition to in-office treatments, Revalla offers the TecNiche line of products for at-home care. All of the TecNiche products are organic, clean, paraben-free and fragrance-free. These products reduce inflammation, offer gentle exfoliation when appropriate, and regenerate and hydrate the skin leaving it refreshed and soothed. The TecNiche line is luxurious and yet healing at the same time.

Approach Used in Oncology Aesthetics

Like all of our services at Revalla, your first Oncology Aesthetics visit will include a comprehensive review of your goals and priorities. For our oncology aesthetics patients, this will include an overview of your diagnosis, a review of your cancer treatment plan, and any recent changes in your skin. As a partner with her patients in this process, Ruth Ann Roth strives to keep safety and rejuvenation as two of her foremost priorities. She will review the current information about each patient so that she can customize the plan at each visit—in some cases, it might be appropriate to do a soothing mask and hand or scalp massage, and in other cases, Ruth may recommend an at-home skincare protocol as the best course of treatment. Some have described chemotherapy and cancer treatment as a “grab bag of side-effects—you never know what you’re going to get!” Because of this, and the added vulnerability of each of our oncology aesthetics patients, starting with communication is crucial to effective (and safe) treatment.

FAQ

Certified Oncology Aestheticians have undergone the training and specialized study to ensure their services are safe and beneficial to cancer patients and cancer survivors. Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and what you use to care for it, and how you treat it can truly make an impact—especially if it’s been medically-compromised.

For instance, traditional aesthetics sometimes involves massage and stimulation of the skin on the face, neck and shoulders. Oncology Aestheticians are trained to know more about the lymphatic system, and the perils for some patients of expressing the lymph nodes while in the midst of their cancer treatment. Ruth Ann Roth uses techniques that allow her to provide a healing and relaxing treatment, with the added peace of mind for the patient that comes with her advanced expertise in the aesthetics arena.

Another important aspect to Oncology Aesthetics is that the focus is more on stress-relief and healing, as opposed to the most common purpose of aesthetics which is typically anti-aging. In most cases, our Oncology Aesthetician will work with you to improve the resilience of your skin. Then, as time passes, the plan can be modified to address varying priorities as your cancer treatment progresses and evolves.

It is very important to discuss with your cancer doctors (oncologists, radiation oncologists, etc.) whether your skin will be affected during your cancer treatment. We ask you to let your cancer care team know you would like to see a certified oncology aesthetician—who offers her services at a physician’s office—and we encourage you to ask if there are any limitations to your skincare regimen.

Revalla Plastic Surgery & Medical Aesthetics specializes in breast and body surgeries, in addition to minimally-invasive aesthetics treatments. Because all of the services we offer are elective, we maintain the safety of our patients as our #1 priority. The highest standard of hygiene and sanitation is of critical importance for all of our patients, but especially those who may have compromised immune systems due to chemotherapy or radiation.

Triniti+ Total Facial Renewal

Facial skin discoloration, wrinkles, and uneven texture are common cosmetic problems. But instead of concealing blemishes or pursuing surgical solutions, many people are finding facial renewal with the Triniti+ Skin Program, which is ideal for almost anyone with blemishes or signs of aging.

How We Perform Triniti+ Total Facial Renewal

The revolutionary Triniti+ system combines three skin treatments in one:

  • Color Correction treats facial veins, age spots, uneven skin tone, and sun-damaged, hyperpigmented skin.
  • Sublime Skin Contouring treatment targets the signs of skin laxity, including sagging skin around the jowls, neck, and under the eyes. It also helps lift the cheeks and nasolabial folds.
  • Sublative Wrinkle Reduction treatment tightens wrinkles and smooths the texture of the skin.

Together these treatments create one of the most effective skin treatment regimens available, without the downtime of CO2 or surgery.

FAQ

Triniti+ uses a special bi-polar radio frequency and precise light energies. These combine to precisely target and heat undesirable tissue while leaving healthy tissue unharmed. Triniti+ stimulates the body’s natural healing response and leads to the development of healthier, more youthful-looking skin.

Triniti+ requires fewer sessions than similar skin treatments. Three to five sessions, spaced three to four weeks apart, are usually sufficient. Touch-up sessions every six months may be necessary to maintain these results.

The procedure causes minimal discomfort, although some patients may benefit from topical anesthetic or an external cooling device. Patients are usually able to return to their daily routines within 24 hours after the procedure. Triniti+ has been proven safe for most skin types and colors. Your doctor will discuss potential risks during the course of a consultation.

As with all laser skin therapies, it’s important to keep the treated area out of the sunlight after treatment. Your skin will be sensitive to UV radiation for some weeks after the treatment. Along with periodic touch-up treatments, you can help preserve your skin’s new appearance by following a skincare regimen. Ask Dr. Hunsicker about what options are available.

Improvements in skin appearance and texture take place over the course of the treatment. Triniti+ is customized to fit individual needs and goals, so that timing may vary.
