Breast implant augmentation is a cosmetic surgical procedure to increase breast size or enhance breast shape. The breast procedure uses saline or silicone-filled breast implants. The procedure can be tailored to meet your needs. We can increase your breast size to improve overall body proportions, or improve your breast symmetry if you have a size discrepancy between your breasts. So, how does Denver plastic surgeon Dr. Hunsicker and Dr. Nguyen perform breast augmentation?

How We Perform Breast Implant Augmentation

This outpatient surgery takes about 2 hours under IV sedation or general anesthesia. An incision is made in the crease underneath the breast to achieve a natural-looking outcome. Through the incision, Dr. Hunsicker will create a pocket for the implant. This pocket is typically formed underneath the muscle in your chest. She always takes great care in creating this pocket, as this is a critical element in achieving the overall look of your breasts. She will insert sizing implants to help refine both shape and size, going back to re-work the pocket as needed. Once Dr. Hunsicker has achieved your desired shape and size, she will replace the sizing implant with a permanent implant.

Your incision will be closed using a combination of internal sutures (that will dissolve on their own) and Dermabond (a surgical "super-glue") on the skin's surface. This combination helps to achieve minimal scarring. Dr. Hunsicker and Dr. Nguyen use Exparel® for her breast augmentation patients, which helps to reduce the amount of prescription pain medication you may need after surgery. This injectable numbing medication helps manage any post-surgical discomfort extremely well, making for a much easier and speedier recovery time after your breast enhancement.

FAQ

A breast implant augmentation procedure at our state-of-the Littleton surgery center is designed to 1) increase fullness and projection of the breasts, 2) improve the balance of your figure, and 3) enhance your self-image and self-confidence.

Dr. Hunsicker will work with you to select your implant size range prior to surgery, based on the individualized results that you are looking for. Using your pre-operative measurements and understanding of your desired goals, she always orders a range of implants to have available during the surgery. In this way, she can use the sizing breast implants to find exactly which permanent implant is right for you based on your input and her artistic judgment.

Breast augmentation surgery may be a good option for you if 1) you are healthy and have realistic expectations, 2) your breasts are fully developed, 3) you are bothered by small breast size, 4) you are bothered by loss of breast shape and volume after pregnancy, weight loss, or aging, 5) your breasts are asymmetrical, and 6) one or both breasts failed to develop normally.

Breast augmentation does not correct severely drooping breasts. If you want your breasts to look fuller and to be lifted due to sagging, a breast lift surgery may be required in conjunction with breast augmentation. This can be done at the same time as your augmentation or may require a separate operation.

You will be able to go home after a couple of hours. You will likely experience some swelling and discomfort the first few days. This is greatly reduced by the use of Exparel and other necessary prescription pain medication. Exparel effectively reduces the need for prescription pain medication and narcotics, making for a more comfortable breast augmentation recovery. You will likely still feel "pressure" until your tissue stretches to accommodate the implants. You will have a 10 pound lifting restriction for six weeks after surgery to ensure your body is well-healed before putting undo pressure on the new surgical site. During the first week or two after surgery, you may notice that your implants seem to be too high. This is caused by a spasm of your chest muscles (which is also the cause of the discomfort alleviated by the pain pump). As with all muscle spasms, these will subside and your implants will begin dropping into a more natural position. During the first two weeks after surgery, you will wear an ace bandage to aid in both providing adequate support and helping the implants to drop properly.

Breast augmentation at Revalla Plastic Surgery costs $8,000 to $10,000 depending on your specific surgery.
