Brow Lift

With age, visible forehead wrinkles and frown lines develop which can make the face look angry at rest. In addition, the skin starts to lose elasticity and the eyebrows may start to drop and cover the upper eyelids which creates a tired or aged appearance.

A brow lift, or forehead lift, is a procedure that improves frown lines across the forehead and between the eyebrows by lifting droopy eyebrows that cover the upper eyelids. With the eyebrows moved to a higher position, the upper face appears more alert and youthful.

The incisions for this procedure varies based on the individual’s desired outcome. The incisions are generally hidden within or at the hairline or in a natural crease and the skin elevated and secured to the appropriate position. Excess skin or tissue is then removed. The muscles responsible for vertical frown lines between the eyebrows can be partially removed or weakened at this time. A mixture of absorbable and nonabsorbable sutures will be placed and removed in 2 weeks.

As with any facial surgery, there will be swelling after the procedure that will drastically improve within the first few weeks and continue to improve for several months after. It is important to maintain head elevation and avoid strenuous activity or actions that would increase pressure to the face to promote faster recovery.
