Common Labiaplasty Questions Answered

A woman's torso and hips, wearing lacy boy briefs after a labiaplasty surgery to reduce labia size

Labiaplasty has become increasingly popular over the last decade, with more and more women discovering the benefits of this procedure. Far from being purely cosmetic, a labiaplasty can help with issues such as discomfort, pain during intercourse, and increased risk of urinary tract infections. Plus, it also helps with appearance, allowing many women to become more comfortable in intimate situations.

If you are interested in a labiaplasty to reduce enlarged labia or correct uneven or misshapen labia, please contact Dr. Lisa Hunsicker today at 720-283-2500 to schedule your initial consultation.

How Long Is Recovery After a Labiaplasty?

Recovery after a labiaplasty is relatively minor. You’ll have some swelling and itching for the first few days, but it should subside fairly quickly. You can use cooling ice packs to help with any swelling or discomfort, and we can prescribe pain medication but most patients just need Tylenol after surgery.

Dr. Hunsicker uses dissolvable stitches, so it makes your next day appointment quick and easy. The stitches should last for 2 to 4 weeks, and you should be able to resume all of your everyday activities and exercises by week 6.

It should be safe to have sexual intercourse again after 6 to 8 weeks. We recommend checking with Dr. Hunsicker first to make sure everything is fully healed.

Can You Have a Child After Labiaplasty?

Yes, you can still have children after undergoing labiaplasty surgery. However, keep in mind that childbirth can cause the labia to stretch, and hormones may alter the shape somewhat as well. How much the labia stretches varies from person to person, and it’s impossible to know whether or not you’ll need a revision labiaplasty after childbirth.

Most women who undergo labiaplasty do it after they are finished having children, but the ultimate decision is up to you. Labiaplasty will not affect your ability to have children at all.

How Much Does Labiaplasty Cost?

A labiaplasty with Dr. Hunsicker at Revalla Plastic Surgery can cost $5,000 to $6,000, depending on the complexity of your procedure. That being said, you should never choose a plastic surgeon based on price alone. More important than cost are things like:

  • Board certification
  • Experience performing the procedure you are interested in
  • How comfortable you feel with the surgeon
  • How well your surgeon’s before and after gallery aligns with your aesthetic and desired results

If you are concerned about the cost of a plastic surgery procedure, ask us about financing options. We may be able to work with you or help you find an outside financing company to allow you to afford the procedure you want. Labiaplasty can vastly improve the quality of your life, so don’t let cost dissuade you from pursuing it if you think it would make a difference.
